Trailing Bellflower 'Stella'
Often regarded as one of the best trailing alpines for UK gardens, 'Stella' is a vigorous and floriferous cultivar. It produces a mass of star-shaped, rich lavender-blue flowers over a long period starting in early summer. Its habit is sprawling, making it perfect for cascading over walls, filling gaps in paving, or as a groundcover in better-drained areas. Unlike some finicky alpines, it is incredibly tough and adaptable, thriving in almost any soil type as long as it isn't waterlogged. It is fully hardy (H7) and can actually be somewhat invasive in ideal conditions, so it is best kept away from tiny, slower-growing treasures. It performs well in both full sun and partial shade, making it a versatile choice for difficult corners of the garden. A light trim after the first flush of flowers can often encourage a second, smaller display of blooms later in the season.
Sun: Full sun to partial shade.
Soil: Any well-drained soil.
Hardiness: H7 — below −20°C.
Flowering: Jun, Jul, Aug.
