Beautyberry 'Profusion'

Callicarpa bodinieri 'Profusion' is a deciduous shrub that provides one of the most spectacular autumn displays in a UK garden. While it can be grown as a specimen, it also makes an unusual and eye-catching informal hedge. In summer, it has small lilac flowers, but its true glory revealed in autumn when the leaves turn a vibrant purple and drop to reveal clusters of incredible, metallic-violet berries. These berries are unlike almost anything else in the garden and persist well into winter. The young leaves in spring often have a bronzy-purple tint, adding further seasonal interest. It is fully hardy (H6) and thrives in a sunny to partially shaded spot with well-drained soil. To ensure a good berry crop, it is often best to plant them in a small group or as a hedge to help with pollination. It is a relatively low-maintenance shrub that requires only a light prune in early spring to maintain its shape.
