Kale 'Red Russian'
Kale 'Red Russian' is a beautiful and highly nutritious leafy green, prized for its tender, deeply lobed, grey-green leaves with purple-red stems and veins, which intensify in colour in colder weather. This vigorous variety can reach 60-90cm in height and 45-60cm in spread, and is exceptionally hardy (H7), making it a superb winter vegetable for UK gardens. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers rich, well-drained soil. 'Red Russian' is known for its sweet, mild flavour, particularly after a frost. It's an excellent source of vitamins and minerals. The leaves can be harvested continuously as needed, providing a long cropping period. Young leaves are great for salads, while mature leaves are ideal for cooking. Attracts beneficial insects.
