Calabrese 'Green Magic'

An exceptional F1 hybrid variety that has become a favorite among UK gardeners for its heat tolerance and reliability. 'Green Magic' produces large, well-domed, tight green heads with a fine bead. One of its standout features is the excellent production of side shoots after the main central head has been harvested, significantly extending the picking season. It is relatively fast-growing, typically maturing in 60-70 days from transplanting. Unlike traditional sprouting broccoli, calabrese is usually grown for summer and autumn harvest. It prefers a rich, moisture-retentive soil and benefits from consistent watering during dry spells to prevent premature bolting. The plant has a vigorous, upright habit and bluish-green foliage. It is rich in vitamins and minerals, maintaining its vibrant color and firm texture when lightly steamed. Protection from cabbage white butterflies and pigeons is essential for a successful crop in most UK allotments.
