Calabrese 'Green Belton'

'Green Belton' is a high-quality F1 hybrid calabrese (often called broccoli in supermarkets) that is exceptionally well-suited to the UK's temperate climate. It is known for producing large, domed, blue-green heads with a fine bead structure and excellent flavour. One of its primary advantages is its heat tolerance, which prevents it from bolting prematurely during uncharacteristically warm British summers, yet it also possesses good cold tolerance for autumn harvests. After the main central head is harvested, the plant continues to produce a generous crop of smaller side shoots, extending the harvest period. It requires a firm, fertile, and moist soil, ideally one that was manured for a previous crop. Like all brassicas, it needs protection from pigeons and cabbage white butterflies using netting. It is an efficient use of garden space, providing nutritious greens from late summer through to the first hard frosts of November. It is a robust and reliable performer for any kitchen garden.
