Cauliflower 'Romanesco'

Technically a cauliflower but with the colour of broccoli and a truly unique appearance, 'Romanesco' produces stunning lime-green heads composed of intricate, fractal-like pointed spiralling florets. It is a mathematical wonder of the plant world. The flavour is milder, nuttier, and crunchier than standard white cauliflower, making it a gourmet favourite in the UK. It is a relatively large plant that requires plenty of space and a firm, rich soil. It is best grown as an autumn-maturing crop, sown in May or June and harvested from September to November. Like most brassicas, it is a "hungry" plant and benefits from a high-nitrogen feed during its growth. It is moderately hardy but can be damaged by severe frosts, so it's best grown in southern or coastal regions or harvested before the depth of winter. It is an excellent source of vitamins C and K and provides a stunning visual addition to any roast dinner.
