Kale 'Redbor'

'Redbor' is an F1 hybrid kale that is as beautiful as it is nutritious, making it a perfect plant for both the vegetable garden and the ornamental border. It produces tall plants with finely curled, frilly foliage that starts as a deep blue-green and turns a rich, dark purple-burgundy as the temperatures drop in the autumn. The colour is at its most intense during the UK winter, often standing out dramatically against frost or snow. It is exceptionally hardy (H7) and can withstand the harshest British winters without any protection. The leaves are tender and have a mild, sweet flavour, especially after they have been frosted. Harvest can begin from late summer and continue right through until the following spring. Kale is very easy to grow, tolerating most soil types as long as they are well-drained and the plant is firmed in well to prevent wind-rock. It is a primary source of vitamins during the winter months and requires very little maintenance once established.
