Kale 'Dwarf Green Curled'
'Dwarf Green Curled' is an exceptionally hardy and reliable kale variety that is perfect for UK gardens with limited space or those exposed to high winds. Unlike the taller kales, this variety stays low to the ground (about 30-40cm), forming a dense mound of extremely crinkly, dark-green leaves. It is one of the most winter-hardy vegetables available (H5), and its flavour is significantly improved by frost, which turns the starches into sugars, resulting in a sweet, nutty taste. It is virtually trouble-free, resisting the pests and diseases that often affect other brassicas. It thrives in almost any soil type, provided it is firm and well-drained. It can be harvested leaf-by-leaf from October right through until April, providing a vital source of fresh greens and vitamins throughout the coldest months. It is an essential, low-maintenance "superfood" for the British kitchen garden.
