Swede 'Invitation'

'Invitation' is a robust and disease-resistant swede variety, specifically bred to withstand the damp and often difficult growing conditions of the UK. It is highly resistant to clubroot and powdery mildew, two of the most common issues affecting brassicas in British gardens. This variety produces large, uniform roots with purple tops and a creamy-yellow, fine-textured flesh. The flavor is exceptionally sweet, especially after the first autumn frosts have occurred, which triggers the conversion of starch to sugar. It is a dual-purpose variety, providing both nutrient-rich roots for roasting or mashing and nutritious tops that can be used as spring greens. Sown in late spring or early summer, it is a slow-growing crop that occupies the ground until winter. It is very hardy and can be left in the ground until needed, providing a reliable source of fresh vegetables throughout the coldest months of the year.
