Moonwort
Botrychium lunaria, the Moonwort, is a fascinating and diminutive native fern with a very unique appearance. It produces a single, short-stemmed frond, divided into two distinct parts: a sterile, fan-shaped, fleshy green blade with crescent-shaped segments and a fertile, upright, spore-bearing spike. It typically reaches just 5-15cm in height. H6 hardy, it prefers partial shade and short, unimproved grassland on neutral to alkaline soils. A truly enchanting and rare miniature for the specialist or keen eye, perfect for a naturalistic, undisturbed area.
