Paper-skin Bamboo 'Boliana'

A magnificent clump-forming bamboo celebrated for its wonderfully powdery-blue culms, which are particularly intense on younger growth, and the papery sheaths that persist, giving it a unique character. It can reach an impressive ultimate height of 4-6m and spread of 2-3m. This relatively new introduction is proving very hardy in UK gardens, rated H5. Flowering is usually very rare. It thrives in partial shade to full sun in moist, well-drained, fertile soil, ideally needing a sheltered position to protect its blue bloom from strong sun or wind.

Sun: Partial shade to full sun.

Soil: Moist, well-drained, fertile loam.

Hardiness: H5 — down to −15°C.
