Kruez's Bamboo

Borinda kruezi is a stunning, high-altitude clumping bamboo that is prized for its exquisite colouration. The young culms emerge with a striking blue-white waxy coating and are often accompanied by reddish or purple culm sheaths. As the canes age, they turn a deep, burnished green. The foliage is remarkably fine and dainty, creating a soft, weeping silhouette that is very graceful. It is a non-invasive, clumping species that is ideally suited to a specimen position where its colourful canes can be admired. In the UK, it is hardy to H4-H5 but it definitely prefers a cool, damp site with protection from harsh afternoon sun and drying winds, which can cause the leaves to curl. It thrives in moisture-retentive, humus-rich, acidic soil. It is an excellent choice for a woodland style garden or a sheltered courtyard. Its refined appearance sets it apart from the more common screening bamboos.
