Narrow-leaved Bamboo

Known for its incredibly fine, narrow foliage, this clump-forming bamboo creates one of the softest and most graceful textures in the garden. The new canes often have a beautiful purple or reddish tint, and they grow very closely together, forming a dense, elegant pillar that arches at the top. It can reach around 4 metres in height. It is a non-invasive species, making it ideal for the garden. While it is relatively hardy (H4/H5), it is best suited to the milder parts of the UK or a very sheltered spot in colder areas, as the delicate leaves can be damaged by harsh frosts and cold winds. It thrives in a consistently moist, but well-drained soil and prefers partial shade. It is particularly effective when planted where it can be backlit by the sun, which highlights the fine texture of its leaves and the subtle colours of its stems.
