River Birch
A medium-sized deciduous tree valued for its attractive, shaggy, peeling bark in shades of salmon, brown, and cream, providing outstanding ornamental interest, particularly in winter. It grows to 15-20m tall with an open, spreading crown. The diamond-shaped leaves are glossy green, turning yellow in autumn. Extremely hardy (H6), it is unique amongst birches for its tolerance of wet soils, thriving in full sun to partial shade and moist to wet, acidic conditions. An excellent choice for damp areas or beside water, and a distinctive specimen tree.
