Beetroot 'Detroit Dark Red'

Beetroot 'Detroit Dark Red' is a classic and popular maincrop beetroot, producing uniformly round, deep red roots with a sweet, earthy flavour. It's a reliable performer, good for storing. The foliage grows to about 30cm, with roots developing to 7-10cm diameter. As a biennial (grown as an annual), it is H5 hardy. It doesn't typically flower in its first year if harvested. 'Detroit Dark Red' thrives in full sun and well-drained, fertile soil. This versatile variety is excellent roasted, boiled, or pickled, and the young leaves can also be eaten.
