Beetroot 'Albina Vereduna'
A distinctive heirloom beetroot variety from Holland that produces pure white, globe-shaped roots. This variety is perfect for those who want the sweet, earthy flavour of beetroot without the staining purple juice that can be messy in the kitchen. The roots are exceptionally sweet—comparable to sugar beets—and have a fine, smooth texture. An added bonus is that the lush, wavy green leaves are also edible and make an excellent substitute for spinach when cooked. In the UK, it is sown from April to July for harvests throughout the summer and autumn. It grows best in a light, stone-free soil that has been well-cultivated. Like most beetroots, it is important to keep the plants well-watered to prevent the roots from becoming woody. Because of its white flesh, it provides a beautiful contrast when served alongside traditional red and golden varieties in a salad. It is reliable and relatively fast to mature, usually taking about 55-65 days.
