Heartleaf Bergenia 'Purpurea'

Bergenia cordifolia 'Purpurea' is a robust and resilient evergreen perennial, excellent for groundcover in UK gardens, reaching 30-40cm. From March to May, sturdy stems bear clusters of deep pink to purple, bell-shaped flowers held above large, glossy, rounded leaves. The foliage of 'Purpurea' is especially notable for turning rich purple-bronze in colder weather, providing superb winter interest. It thrives in a wide range of soils, including heavy clay, and is tolerant of both partial shade and sun, becoming more colourful in brighter conditions. Fully hardy (RHS H6), it's a superb, low-maintenance choice for woodland edges, borders, or urban environments.
