Berberis 'Red Pillar'
Berberis thunbergii 'Red Pillar' is a striking deciduous shrub, forming a narrow, upright hedge or architectural accent in UK gardens. Its rich, deep purple-red foliage provides intense colour from spring to autumn, turning brilliant scarlet in the latter part of the year. Small yellow flowers appear in spring, followed by bright red berries that persist into winter, providing some wildlife interest. With an ultimate height of 1.5-2m and a spread of only 0.5-1m, 'Red Pillar' is excellent for tight spaces or formal, slender hedging. It thrives in full sun for best leaf colour, tolerates a wide range of soils, and is very hardy. Protect from strong winds to prevent damage.
Sun: Full sun.
Soil: Well-drained soil.
Hardiness: H6 — down to −20°C.
