Purple Japanese Barberry 'Orange Rocket'
A spectacular and award-winning cultivar of the Japanese Barberry, 'Orange Rocket' is prized for its unique foliage and strictly upright, columnar habit. It is a deciduous shrub that delivers intense colour throughout the growing season. The new leaves emerge a bright, vivid orange, maturing to a rich burgundy-red by mid-summer, and then turning brilliant shades of ruby-red in the autumn. It produces small yellow flowers in spring, followed by red berries. This plant is perfect for creating a narrow, colourful vertical hedge where horizontal space is limited. It is extremely hardy and resilient, growing well in most well-drained soils. Its spiny stems make it an effective deterrent despite its slender profile. To maintain the best orange and red leaf colour, it should be planted in full sun, as the foliage may become greener in more shaded locations. It requires very little pruning to maintain its tight, upright form, making it a low-maintenance but high-impact choice for any garden.
