Barberry 'Golden Rocket'

Berberis thunbergii 'Golden Rocket' is a striking deciduous shrub that brings a vertical accent and vibrant colour to the garden. Unlike many spreading barberries, this cultivar has a distinctively narrow, columnar habit, making it perfect for tight spaces or narrow hedging plants. The foliage is a brilliant, fluorescent lime-green to golden-yellow that holds its colour well through the summer without scorching in the sun. In autumn, the leaves turn spectacular shades of orange and red before falling. Like other barberries, it has thorny stems, providing a good security barrier for low boundaries. It is fully hardy (H7) and very easy to grow in a wide range of soil conditions, provided they are well-drained. It produces small yellow flowers in spring, followed by red berries. This plant is an excellent choice for a low-maintenance hedge that offers architectural structure and intense seasonal colour.

Sun: Full sun to partial shade.

Soil: Any well-drained soil.
