Begonia 'Flamboyant'

A classic and much-loved tuberous begonia often seen in traditional UK bedding displays and hanging baskets. 'Flamboyant' lives up to its name, producing a carpet of single, bright scarlet-red flowers that stand out vividly against dark green, serrated leaves. It has a compact and bushy habit, making it ideal for window boxes, containers, or the front of a summer border. One of its greatest strengths in the UK climate is its ability to perform well regardless of the weather; it is more rain-tolerant than many of the double-flowered varieties. It prefers a position in partial shade, which makes it invaluable for brightening up darker corners of the garden. The tubers should be started indoors in spring and can be kept for many years if stored in a dry, frost-free place during the winter. It provides continuous colour from early summer until the first frosts of autumn.
