Hedge Bamboo 'Golden Goddess'
Bambusa multiplex 'Golden Goddess' is a charming, non-invasive clumping bamboo that is particularly well-suited to the milder coastal or southern regions of the UK. While less hardy than Fargesia species, it can thrive in sheltered London gardens or coastal microclimates. It is celebrated for its dense, bushy growth and yellowish-green canes that support a mass of small, delicate leaves. Reaching about 2.5 to 3 metres, it is frequently used to create soft, feathered privacy hedges. In the UK, it is often grown in large pots which can be moved to a conservatory or greenhouse during exceptionally cold winters, as it typically avoids damage down to -5°C (H3 hardiness). The semi-dwarf habit makes it very manageable. It requires a sun-drenched position to develop its best colour and loves a high-nitrogen feed during the growing season. Though flowering is extremely rare, its value lies in its year-round tropical appearance and controllable growth.
