Masterwort 'Claret'

Astrantia major 'Claret', a distinguished cultivar of Masterwort, is a superb perennial for adding intricate beauty to partial shade in UK gardens. It produces fascinating, pincushion-like flowerheads, surrounded by papery bracts, in a rich, deep wine-red colour. These unique blooms are held on strong stems above mounds of deeply lobed, mid-green foliage. Growing to about 60-75cm tall, 'Claret' thrives in partial shade and prefers consistently moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. It is fully hardy (H7) and flowers prolifically from early summer into autumn, attracting pollinators and making excellent cut flowers. Ideal for woodland edges, cottage gardens, or mixed borders where its unique texture and colour can be appreciated.
