Masterwort 'Abbey Road'
A sophisticated and trendy perennial that is highly valued for both cutting and garden display. 'Abbey Road' produces stunning, pincushion-like flower heads of deep reddish-purple, surrounded by a ruff of dark, papery bracts on tall, dark-maroon stems. The foliage is deeply lobed and dark green, forming a neat mound throughout the spring and summer. This Masterwort is particularly floriferous and, if deadheaded regularly, can produce a second flush of flowers in late summer. It prefers a cool, moist, and humus-rich soil in partial shade, mimicking its natural woodland edge habitat. It is perfectly hardy and very easy to care for, though it does not enjoy drying out completely. The intricate flowers are fascinating up close and add a touch of "wildflower" elegance to cottage or contemporary garden designs. It is also an excellent choice for a damp, shady border where its rich colour can pop.
