Italian Aster 'King George'

One of the oldest and most beloved Aster cultivars, 'King George' is prized for its large, daisy-like flowers that can reach up to 5cm across. The blossoms are a vibrant violet-blue with prominent golden-yellow centres, appearing in late summer and continuing well into autumn. Unlike many other Michaelmas Daisies, Aster amellus varieties are notably resistant to powdery mildew, making them a much lower-maintenance choice for the UK garden. This plant has a compact, bushy habit and does not usually require staking. It prefers a well-drained, alkaline to neutral soil and a position in full sun. It is a magnet for bees and butterflies, providing a vital source of nectar late in the season. Fully hardy and robust, it is an essential component of the late-season herbaceous border, providing reliable colour and structure as other plants begin to decline.
