Asparagus 'Gijnlim'

'Gijnlim' is an early-cropping, all-male asparagus cultivar, highly valued for its vigorous growth, high yields of thick, tender spears, and excellent disease resistance. Being all-male, it puts all its energy into producing spears rather than seeds, leading to a more productive crop. The feathery foliage ('fern') can reach 1.5m in height and wide, providing an attractive backdrop. Asparagus is a long-lived perennial (H6 hardy), remaining productive for 15-20 years once established. It requires a sunny, well-drained site with richly prepared soil. Plant crowns in spring. Harvest sparingly in the second year, then freely for 6-8 weeks from the third year onwards. An investment that provides delicious spears for many seasons.
