French Tarragon
French Tarragon is a culinary essential, highly prized for its distinctive anise-like flavour, a cornerstone in French cuisine. Unlike its Russian counterpart, this cultivar is sterile and must be propagated by division or cuttings. It forms a bushy, upright perennial, reaching about 60-90cm in height, with narrow, deep green leaves. Thriving in the UK climate (H4), it prefers a sheltered spot with good drainage and full sun, though it tolerates partial shade. Small, greenish-white flowers may appear in late summer, but they are insignificant. Harvest the young, tender shoots frequently to encourage new growth. Protect from excessive winter wet to prevent root rot.
