Wormwood 'Lambrook Silver'

A classic foliage plant for the Mediterranean garden, 'Lambrook Silver' is an upright, woody-based perennial or sub-shrub prized for its highly decorative, finely-cut, silvery-white leaves. The foliage is intensely aromatic and provides a brilliant luminous highlight in a sunny border, especially when paired with dark purples or bright yellows. In late summer, it produces small, nodding, yellowish flower heads, but these are generally considered secondary to the beauty of the leaves. It is a hardy (H6) and robust plant that thrives in poor, well-drained soil and full sun. Excessive moisture in winter can be a problem, so good drainage is essential. To keep the plant from becoming leggy and woody, it should be cut back hard in early spring just as the new growth starts to appear. It is also remarkably deer and rabbit resistant due to the bitter oils in its leaves. A superb choice for adding structure and cool colour to a dry garden.

Sun: Full sun.

Soil: Well-drained, poor to moderately fertile soil.

Hardiness: H6 — down to −20°C.

Flowering: Jul, Aug, Sep.
