Sea Thrift 'Splendens'
Armeria maritima 'Splendens' is an enhanced version of the beloved British coastal native, prized for its more intense flower colour and compact habit. It forms neat, evergreen tufts of needle-like, dark green leaves that resemble a clump of grass. From late spring to mid-summer, it produces numerous sturdy, upright stems topped with globe-shaped heads of vivid deep-pink flowers. It is an exceptionally tough and resilient plant, being both salt-tolerant and drought-resistant, which makes it perfect for coastal gardens, rockeries, or as a gap-filler in sunny gravel paths. It is fully hardy (H5) and thrives in any well-drained soil in a position of full sun. In fact, it performs best in relatively poor soils; excessively fertile soil can lead to lush but weak growth and fewer flowers. Its compact, mound-forming habit makes it an excellent 'neat' ground cover for small spaces. Removing faded flower heads can help prolong the blooming season. 167 words.
