Bearberry 'Vancouver Jade'
Arctostaphylos uva-ursi 'Vancouver Jade' is a superior cultivar of bearberry, celebrated for its robust growth and excellent ground cover capabilities in cooler UK climates. This evergreen shrub forms a dense, prostrate mat of small, leathery, dark green leaves that provide year-round interest and turn bronze in winter. In spring, it produces charming clusters of urn-shaped, pinkish-white flowers, followed by abundant bright red berries that persist from late summer through winter, offering a vital food source for birds. 'Vancouver Jade' thrives in full sun to partial shade and requires well-drained, acidic to neutral soil, preferring poorer conditions to rich ones. It is very hardy (H6) and ideal for rockeries, slopes, or naturalising, excellent for suppressing weeds and preventing erosion.
