Celery 'Victoria'

'Victoria' is a standout F1 hybrid self-blanching celery, specifically bred for the UK's cooler maritime climate. Traditional celery can be notoriously difficult to grow, requiring deep trenches and frequent blanching, but 'Victoria' simplifies the process by producing naturally pale, succulent, and crisp stems without the need for mounding soil. It has an upright, vigorous growth habit and shows good resistance to bolting, a common issue during erratic British springs. This variety requires a moisture-retentive, highly fertile soil and must never be allowed to dry out, making it ideal for boggy areas or well-watered raised beds. Its flavour is mild and sweet, lacking the stringiness of older varieties. While it is relatively hardy, it is best harvested before the first severe frosts of autumn. It is an excellent source of crunch for salads and a fundamental base for British soups and stews.
