Cow Parsley 'Ravenswing'

A sophisticated, dark-leaved version of the native British hedgerow staple. 'Ravenswing' is a short-lived perennial or biennial that adds a touch of wild elegance to the garden. It is celebrated for its finely divided, almost black-purple fern-like foliage which provides a dramatic backdrop for other spring plants. In late spring and early summer, it produces delicate, flat-topped umbels of tiny white flowers that appear to float above the dark leaves. Growing to about 90cm, it fits perfectly into cottage garden schemes or meadow-style plantings. It is fully hardy (H6) and prefers a position in full sun or partial shade with moist but well-drained soil. While it is attractive to pollinators, gardeners should be aware that it can self-seed freely, though the seedlings may not always retain the deep purple colour of the parent. Removing spent flower heads before they set seed can help control its spread and maintain the plant's vigour.
