Sicilian Chamomile

This delightful evergreen perennial is a powerhouse of Mediterranean charm, forming a low, spreading mat of finely-dissected, silvery-grey foliage. In early summer, it is smothered with a carpet of large, daisy-like flowers with pure white rays and bright yellow centres. The contrast between the brilliant white flowers and the cool silver leaves is exceptionally effective in sunny borders or rockeries. It is a tough, drought-tolerant plant that thrives in poor, well-drained soils and full sun. Rated H4, it is generally hardy across the UK but may suffer in cold, wet winters if the drainage is not adequate. After the main flowering period, it is beneficial to shear off the dead flower heads to keep the foliage looking neat and to encourage sporadic re-blooming. It is an excellent choice for a gravel garden, where it can be allowed to scramble over stones and intermingle with other low-growing sun-lovers.
