Pussytoes 'Alexs Pink'
Antennaria dioica 'Alex's Pink' is a charming and resilient UK native cultivar that forms a very low, dense carpet of silver-grey, woolly foliage. The leaves are spatulate and form tight rosettes that spread by stolons, making it an excellent groundcover for small, sunny areas. In late spring and early summer, it produces upright, woolly stems topped with small, fuzzy flower heads that resemble the pads of a cat's paw—hence the common name. These flower heads are a soft, dusty pink in 'Alex's Pink' and dry well, often persisting on the plant for some time. It is a dioecious species, meaning male and female flowers are on separate plants. It thrives in poor, sandy, or gravelly soils and is exceptionally drought-tolerant. In the UK garden, it is perfect for gaps between paving stones, the front of a scree bed, or as a silvery mulch in a container. It is fully hardy.
