Pale Yellow Wood Anemone

Anemone × lipsiensis is a charming natural hybrid between Anemone nemorosa and Anemone ranunculoides. This delicate wood anemone is prized for its soft, buttery-yellow flowers that appear in early spring, bridging the gap between the white of the common wood anemone and the deep gold of the buttercup anemone. The flowers are held above deeply lobed, mid-green foliage which forms a low carpet, dying back to dormant rhizomes by midsummer. It is a slow-growing but reliable perennial that excels when naturalised under deciduous trees or shrubs, where it can enjoy the spring sunshine before the canopy closes. It is fully hardy (H5) and thrives in any reasonably moist, humus-rich woodland soil. It is particularly effective when planted alongside spring bulbs like Scilla or Chionodoxa, providing a soft color palette that defines the quintessential British spring woodland aesthetic.
