Wood Anemone

The cheerful Wood Anemone, Anemone ranunculoides, is a delightful woodland perennial perfect for UK gardens. Standing at 10-20cm tall, it produces masses of bright yellow, buttercup-like flowers from March to May, creating a vibrant carpet under deciduous trees and shrubs. It thrives in cool, moist, humus-rich soil, mimicking its natural woodland floor habitat. This species is fully hardy (RHS H6) and will naturalise readily, spreading to form charming drifts over time. Its delicate foliage emerges in late winter, providing early spring interest before dying back in summer, making it an excellent companion for later-emerging shade plants. A true herald of spring in the shaded garden.
