Wood Anemone
Anemone nemorosa, commonly known as Wood Anemone, is a charming and delicate tuberous perennial native to European woodlands, making it a perfect addition to UK woodland gardens. It produces elegant, star-shaped white flowers, often flushed with pink or purple on the reverse, held above finely cut, fern-like foliage. These flowers form enchanting carpets in early spring, just as deciduous trees are leafing out. It thrives in partial to full shade and prefers moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil, mimicking its natural woodland habitat. Wood Anemones are excellent for naturalising under trees and shrubs, creating a beautiful and serene spring display. They are low maintenance and, once established, will slowly spread to form extensive colonies, providing valuable early nectar.
