Leveille's anemone
Anemone leveillei is a refined and elegant spring-flowering perennial that is perfect for adding a touch of sophistication to the UK garden. It produces delicate, cup-shaped white flowers with a wash of smoky blue or violet on the reverse of the petals and a cluster of prominent violet-blue stamens at the centre. These nodding flowers are held on slender, graceful stems above a mound of deeply divided, dark green leaves. Reaching about 60cm in height, it is an ideal choice for a partially shaded border or a woodland garden. It thrives in moist, humus-rich soil and is generally easy to grow once established. The flowers are particularly beautiful when seen up close, making it a great plant for a spot near a path. It is fully hardy and provides a lovely transitional display between the early spring bulbs and the start of the summer perennials. It is a less common but highly rewarding alternative to the more frequent anemone species.
