Toothpick weed 'Green Mist'
Ammi visnaga 'Green Mist' is a more robust and architectural alternative to the common Ammi majus. This hardy annual produces large, dense, dome-shaped umbels of tiny white flowers that have a distinct lime-green tint before opening fully. The foliage is remarkably finely cut, almost fern-like, and remains a lush deep green throughout the season. Growing to about 1-1.2 metres, 'Green Mist' provides a wonderful structural element to the middle or back of a border and is highly prized by floral designers for its long-lasting, sophisticated cut flowers. In the UK, it is best sown in late summer or early autumn for large plants the following year, though spring sowing also works well. It prefers a sunny position with moist but well-drained soil. This plant is particularly effective when used to knit together bolder-coloured flowers, adding a cooling, textured layer to the planting scheme. It is also an excellent plant for supporting beneficial insects.
