Alyssum 'Mountain Gold'
Alyssum montanum 'Mountain Gold' is a vigorous, low-growing evergreen perennial that provides a sensational carpet of brilliant yellow in the spring. Native to the mountains of Europe, this cultivar is selected for its particularly compact habit and intense flower colour. It forms mounds of small, grey-green, slightly hairy leaves. In April and May, it is engulfed by a mass of sweetly scented, tiny four-petalled flowers. It is incredibly easy to grow in the UK, provided it is given full sun and excellent drainage. It is perfect for cascading over dry stone walls, filling gaps in rockeries, or as an edging plant for sunny borders. It is very drought-tolerant once established and thrives in poor, sandy, or gravelly soils. Occasional trimming after flowering helps to maintain a neat, bushy shape and prevents the plant from becoming leggy. It is a reliable, cheerful, and hardy (H7) addition to any sunny garden.
