Tree Onion

Tree Onion (Allium x proliferum), also known as Egyptian Walking Onion, is a fascinating perennial onion producing bulbils instead of flowers at the top of its stalks. These bulbils eventually 'walk' by bending over and rooting, creating new plants. This hardy perennial (H7) grows to an ultimate height of 60-90cm and a spread of 30cm. It doesn't flower in the traditional sense, but produces bulbils from late spring through summer. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. All parts are edible: roots, stems, and bulbils, offering a continuous harvest. A low-maintenance and intriguing plant.

Sun: Full sun.

Soil: Well-drained soil.

Hardiness: H7 — below −20°C.

Flowering: May, Jun, Jul, Aug.
