Onion 'Setton'

Optimized for the UK gardener, 'Setton' is an improved version of the classic 'Sturon' variety, offering better yield and superior storage qualities. This maincrop onion is typically grown from sets (immature bulbs) planted in early spring. It produces high-quality, globe-shaped bulbs with a distinctive golden-brown skin and a crisp, white flesh with a strong, pungent flavour. 'Setton' is highly regarded for its uniformity and its ability to remain in peak condition for many months after harvest if stored in a cool, dry place. It prefers a sunny position and a well-drained, fertile soil that has been firmed down before planting. In the UK, it is generally resistant to many common onion physiological disorders and is less prone to bolting than many older cultivars. Lifting usually occurs in late summer once the foliage has turned yellow and flopped over, followed by a period of curing in the sun.
