Shallot 'Jermor'
'Jermor' is a traditional French 'Jersey-type' long shallot that is exceptionally well-suited for cultivation in UK gardens. It produces beautiful, copper-skinned bulbs with a distinctive elongated shape and a refined, sweet flavour that is much more delicate than standard onions. This variety is usually grown from sets planted in early spring. Each set will multiply to produce a cluster of five or six new shallots. 'Jermor' is frequently cited by British growers for its excellent storage potential, often remaining in good condition until the following spring. It prefers a sunny, well-drained site and, like all alliums, does not compete well with weeds, so regular hoeing is essential. It is highly resistant to bolting and generally suffers from fewer pests and diseases than larger onions. These shallots are prized by chefs for roasting whole or for use in fine sauces, where their subtle flavour and melting texture are most appreciated.
