Leek 'Musselburgh'

Leek 'Musselburgh' is a historic and exceptionally reliable Scottish heirloom cultivar, renowned for its outstanding hardiness and ability to withstand severe winter weather in the UK. It produces thick, sturdy, white shanks with a superb, mild flavour, making it a staple for harvesting during the colder months. Plants typically grow to about 60-90cm in height, with the edible shank reaching 20-30cm. It thrives in full sun and deep, fertile, well-drained soil. 'Musselburgh' benefits from being 'blanched' by earthing up soil around its stems to produce longer, whiter shanks. A truly indispensable and robust vegetable for any winter garden.
