Leek 'Carentan 2'
Leek 'Carentan 2' is a very hardy and reliable winter leek cultivar, celebrated for its thick, sturdy shanks and excellent flavour. This robust variety stands up well to cold weather, providing a valuable fresh vegetable crop during the colder months in the UK. Plants typically grow to about 40-50cm of edible white shank, with overall height reaching 60-80cm. It thrives in full sun and deep, fertile, well-drained soil. 'Carentan 2' benefits from being 'blanched' by earthing up soil around the stems as they grow, producing longer, whiter shanks. Harvest usually from autumn through to early spring.
