Garlic 'Elephant Garlic'
Elephant Garlic is a distinctive member of the onion family, producing enormous cloves that are milder in flavour than true garlic, with a subtle leek-like undertone. This robust plant can reach an impressive height of 1-1.5 metres with a spread of 30-45cm, topped by attractive, spherical purple flower heads in summer. It thrives in full sun and well-drained, fertile soil. Plant cloves in autumn for harvest the following summer, typically July to August in the UK. 'Elephant Garlic' is an excellent choice for roasting whole or slicing into dishes where a milder garlic flavour is desired, and its dramatic size makes it a garden talking point.
