Water Plantain
Water Plantain is a graceful native aquatic perennial, common in UK ditches, ponds, and slow-moving water. It forms rosettes of long-stalked, oval to lance-shaped leaves, from which rise tall, branched flower spikes bearing numerous small, delicate three-petalled pale pink or white flowers in summer. These flowers are followed by attractive seed heads. It thrives in shallow water or very wet soil at the pond margins, in full sun to partial shade. This plant is excellent for naturalising in wildlife ponds, providing shelter and an important food source for birds.
