Thread-leaf Agave 'Shira ito no Ohi'

This is an exquisite, highly variegated cultivar of the thread-leaf agave. 'Shira ito no Ohi' (which translates as 'The Queen of White Thread') forms a small, symmetrical rosette of dark green leaves with creamy-white margins and distinctive white filaments or 'threads' that curl from the leaf edges. The contrast between the dark green, the white variegation, and the curly white threads is truly stunning. It is a slow-growing, compact plant, eventually reaching about 20-30cm in height. In the UK, it is generally treated as a container specimen (H2) for the greenhouse or a bright indoor spot, though it can go outside in summer. It requires very well-drained soil and careful watering to prevent rot, especially in the winter. Its intricate patterns and small size make it a perfect 'living sculpture' for a modern interior or a sheltered patio display. It is one of the most beautiful variegated succulents available.
