African Lily 'Northern Star'

A particularly hardy and floriferous deciduous Agapanthus, 'Northern Star' is a standout choice for UK gardens. It features deep violet-blue flowers, with each petal marked by a darker central stripe, held on sturdy, upright stems that can reach 75cm in height. The flower heads are globose and packed with individual trumpet-shaped blooms. Its foliage consists of narrow, strap-shaped green leaves that are tinged with violet at the base. This cultivar is notable for its exceptional hardiness compared to evergreen varieties, making it more suitable for colder UK regions. It thrives in a sunny, well-drained position and is perfect for the middle of a border or for large patio containers. To ensure the best flowering display, it should be planted in a spot that receives plenty of sun and should be fed during the growing season. It is relatively drought-tolerant once established and provides a classic, Mediterranean feel to the garden.
