African Lily 'Lavender Haze'

'Lavender Haze' is a breathtaking deciduous Agapanthus, bred for both its huge flower heads and its improved hardiness in the UK climate. In mid to late summer, it produces exceptionally large umbels of lavender-blue flowers on robust, upright stems that can reach nearly a metre in height. Because it is deciduous, it is generally more cold-tolerant than its evergreen counterparts, often rated at H4 or H5 if the crown is mulched in winter. The strap-like green leaves form a tidy clump that works well in the middle of a sunny border or as a focal point in a large decorative pot. It thrives in fertile, well-drained soil and requires full sun to produce the best flower display. In the UK, Agapanthus often flower better when their roots are slightly constricted, making them ideal candidates for container culture. Regular watering during the growing season followed by a dry winter period is the key to success.
